KOTA KINABALU: Plaza Shell is a landmark of the company’s history of partnership and progress with Sabah. Shell Malaysia Chairman, Datuk Iain Lo said that it is also a statement about the future of Shell in Sabah – its intention to grow the company’s business in the state and to power progress together with the people of Sabah.
According to him, around 360 Shell staff will occupy the top four floors of Plaza Shell, where they will run the company’s deepwater business, ranging from day-to-day production operations, maintenance, through future developments and enhancements.
“Our downstream team under Shell Timur Sdn Bhd is also located here in Plaza Shell and will manage the supply and marketing of Retail Fuels, Lubricants, Commercial Fuels, Aviation, and Marine products for the Sabah markets.
“Our office is designed according to Shell’s ‘Connects Standards’ which enhances connectedness to improve collaboration through space usage and technology to seamlessly link up with offshore and other offices.
“Plaza Shell also takes care of staff wellbeing, with dedicated wellness areas for nursing mothers, yoga and meditation. In addition to that, medical clinics, pharmacy, and physiotherapy clinics are available within the building.
“We believe that if we care for the wellbeing of our staff, they will perform better and safer, and also encourage our customers, contractors and partners to be safe,” he said at the opening ceremony of Plaza Shell here yesterday. Iain said that the company partnered with the building’s developer, Hap Seng and Vinci who is the lead contractor for construction because of their reputation for safety and delivery.
Meanwhile, Hap Seng Consolidated Berhad chairman, Datuk Jorgen Bornhoft said that Plaza Shell is a purpose-built 14-storey retail and office block with four levels of basement car park, three levels of retail podium and 10 levels of office together with a sky pavilion, with a total gross floor area of approximately 670,000 square feet.
“This building has been conceptualised, designed and constructed as a resource-efficient, high-performing, healthy and cost-effective building, in tandem with our desire to provide a healthy and productive working environment,” he added.
